All You Need To Know About Neeraj Ghaywan: Director Of Sacred Games 2
Sacred Games, the super successful Netflix India original series, wowed audiences all over the world with their first season which told the story of Sartaj Singh, a cop in Mumbai and his tryst with Ganesh Gaitonde, a gangster. The earlier season was directed by Vikramaditya Motwane who directed Sartaj Singh’s track and Anurag Kashyap who directed Gaitonde’s track.

For the second season which promises to take the show a notch higher, filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan has been roped in as director to replace Vikramaditya Motwane for Sartaj’s track. However, Motwane will continue to be show runner on the show. If you are new to Neeraj Ghaywan’s work, here’s a little recap to introduce you to him.

Neeraj Ghaywan was an engineer who soon realized that the field was not his calling. Even though he enjoyed financial stability, his creative bone was tickling him. After a stint in advertising, he met Anurag Kashyap who immediately saw him for his talent. Neeraj went on to assist Kashyap on Gangs of Wasseypur and Ugly. During this time, he realized that he was born to be on a film set.

By this time, he had started working with Varun Grover, writer of Sacred Games, on his own script. In 2015, this script became Masaan, a film starring Shweta Tripathi and Vicky Kaushal, directed by Neeraj.

A love story set in the backdrop of Varanasi, Masaan is a heart-wrenching take on the caste system. While the film didn’t really perform at the box office, it found a niche audience which appreciated the honesty of Neeraj’s voice. Masaan was also a critic’s favourite and went on to win numerous awards, including one at Cannes Film Festival.

Soon after, Neeraj also made the short film, Juice starring Shefali Shah which went viral for all the right reasons. This subtle take on the patriarchal mindset of Indian society is a must-watch.

Now, with Sacred Games 2, Neeraj is ready to bring his talent to an already successful show. We wait with bated breath as the day gets closer!

Sacred Games 2 will be streaming on Netflix on August 15th.
